Rain, rain, & more rain

In the last 24 hours to 10am this morning we have had 160mls of rain - it has poured, and poured. The Matakitaki River has burst its banks, and the Matakitaki Bridge on State Highway 6 (main highway South out of Murchison) is closed, due to the flooding.

Our farm has lakes in its paddocks, and it is still raining. It is meant to start easing this afternoon - fingers crossed it d0es.

We went for a drive up to our old run off to bring back some hay (it is still stored in the sheds up there), and this picture is taken from the road just below it. The river has burst its banks, and has now come across the road. Where you see water in the photo, use to be farm land. You can see how deep it is, as the fence is just about under water. I was talking to the neighbour up the road a wee bit, and the road is cut off due to a massive slip. Everyone up the Matakitaki Valley is cut off. Hopefully it will be cleared sometime today or tomorrow.
