Iris and Stefan, travellers par excellence
It has been a good few weeks for airbnb guests. First Dave, who stayed with us 11 years ago when working as a volunteer, and his lovely wife Jasmine, then Iris and Stefan, taking a break from their three-year journey round Latin America in their Landrover to see a bit of Rio. We couldn’t have asked for more interesting and agreeable guests and it will be fun following their progress – Dave and Jas will soon move to Turkey, and we can keep up with Iris and Stefan via their blog, www.randulinas.ch.
I & S very kindly took us out to dinner on this, their last night with us. We went to a little restaurant overlooking the Praia Vermelha beach, under the Sugar Loaf. The view over the sea wall is lovely, with a few fishing boats at anchor in the bay, but we must make a note to arrive earlier next time, to get a table overlooking the beach. There’s a hidden hazard at the restaurant – the huge tree (Terminalia catappa L.; Combretaceae) over the tables sheds its fruit from time to time – and one landed with a resounding crack on Stefan’s head. He claimed it didn’t hurt, but I think he was being stoical.
It has been great having them around - we're going to miss them!
