Diary of an Edinburgher

Sunshine Beach Day!

After the toppling sideways off a bike incident yesterday morning, JR rallied round later in the day, and we were able to go on a long walk round the Headland. There are loads of walks through the native bush or round the coast. We will check them all out. And we saw a KOALA! It was away up at the top of a tree. Sleeping. I've got a photo of lots of beaches and leaves and a grey blob, but I don't think you'd be too impressed.

We also saw the cutest teensy tiniest roundest wee bird. It had a bright shiny blue head, red and black rings round it's neck, and a round brown body with a big fantail sticking straight up! mcd3 has identified it as a 'fairy wren'. Sweet name for a sweet wee bird. I will have to try to get a decent photo of it before I leave! Pressure!

The obligatory beautiful 5pm sunset on the main beach before stopping, in the dark, at the supermarket.

In keeping with the new fitness regime, we were up and out this morning for the walk to the river. It was cloudy, but dry and not cold. The walk takes ages, because everyone likes to stop for a chat.

Stopped in at a bakery for a coffee but resisted the pastries (well done!) and the lady there was giving us all sorts of tips, eg there is a free bus that goes down to the Australian Zoo, so we'll book that one day.

Next stop for a chat was in a clothes shop and the lady had a lovely wee dog, a Tibetan Poodle, Hugo (Boss). Never heard/seen them before but he was a wee smasher.  A bit like a Pekinese,  it with more face. He was a completely indoor dog. He posed for me on the shop counter. The lady lives on a farm in the hinterland, and the last dog she had died of a tick, so she's not going to let that happen again. We were there ages, admiring the wee pooch and seeing his tricks trick - he runs up the street to visit the ladies at the hairdresser. That's all his outdoor life.

Then we took a drive out to the Sunshine Coast. What a beach - it goes on forever! Really big surf beaches, not like the more sedate Noosa River or Noosa Main Beach. I came across this line of dozens of sandcastles. I didn't see who'd done it -  that would have been nice. Maybe it was the bored Surf Life Saver, as there was nobody in swimming. Sorry about the slight lean!

Lots of nice wee 'villages' ie shopping malls - good for a browse/ice cream. I actually got a bargain second hand fleece, as the mornings and evenings can be quite cool.

I tried to take photos of the cockatoos in the trees, but there's something rather unnerving about standing right under a tree full of birds. There were warning signs up about them swooping at people during the breeding season. They're SO noisy, too.  The fairy wren was much more sedate!
