Well, well, well, Parisians certainly enjoy a party. After a day pursuing the tourist slug trails of Paris (Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, The Louvre (where I accidentally saw one of my favourite paintings of all time which, incidentally, made my day), Invalides etc) we headed back to Montmartre for a few glasses of Bordeaux.
It was Fete Nationale and we were promised fireworks. We sat for what seemed like a lifetime on the steps of the Sacre Coeur being hustled and bustled by buskers and Dutch tourists until 11pm when...the fireworks were obscured by a tree.
This photograph was taken on our downtrodden amble down the hill and shows people determined to get a peek of the celebratory firework display. Sadly, the most we saw were some illegal fizzles.
