The Light on the Town
To say that I have spent the day watching the light changing the shape of Edinburgh's cityscape would suggest a degree of observant indolence. Which indeed there was.
Strange to be here in the calm sunlight as Storm Katie shut Dover Port and combed out any winter weaknesses down in the Bay. John would have thrilled to the swaying headland and pouring rain safe in his trusty chair.
He told me once that he did make it to Scotland with his second wife and that they ventured as far north and west as Skye. There they sat in a bed and breakfast and watched the rain fall. Despite his minimalist recollection there seemed a store of contentment in those hours spent watching the rain fall before returning home.
