Wicklow Mountains

We went for a drive over the border to County Wicklow & stopped off at the beautiful Russborough house which was full of antiques collected by the last owners.

It had a very famous art collection but after two robberies in the 70's & 80's of the more valuable ones , thankfully recovered later, they were removed to the National Art Gallery of Ireland.

In the 1980's art robbery, Martin Cahill a Dublin Crime boss known as The General drove up the stone steps at the front of the house & smashed through the door, he was assassinated in 1994 & a couple of films have been based on his life.
