Diary of an Edinburgher

Sunshine!

It was with dismay that when I swept back the curtains this morning, expecting sunshine and blue skies I couldn't see a thing. The dreaded haar had enveloped us, unannounced, and it can stay for days. But today it burnt off by mid morning, and it turned into a lovely day. Though still cardigan weather.

We walked across the Meadows - it was packed with picnickers, people ruining the grass by barbecuing directly on it, cricketers and even a kite flier. We dropped Archie off to hang out for a while with Camila, who is trapped at home, recovering. She wanted some company, and they were delighted to see each other. Archie's eye is fine, but I'll continue with the drops for a few more days.

JR and I then popped to the nearby 56 North for sustenance. It was mobbed, inside and out. We had an excellent sharing platter and an even more excellent Edinburgh gin.

Then we went to the £ Shop, but I couldn't find what I was looking for, and I couldn't concentrate because of the loud rap Muzak. But we managed to pick up a handful of bargains. I left JR to pay, as I knew the bus was coming. It came, but she did not appear. I dropped my bus pass on the pavement to stall for a while, then got on very slowly even more slowly than normal, but she still did not appear. Too bad - she's got good knees and walked home no bother.

A quick coffee, then back in the car to pick Archie up from his therapy dog duties. We went up the Hill as a reward. Met lots of dogs, including a huge Scottie dog.

What a great day. It's amazing what a bit of sunshine (and a G&T) does for the soul.
