a tree

Every time I walk up to Alcock Tarn I take a few photos of this tree. It may have been blipped before. 

It's usually a straight forward walk.. Park in the big layby at Grasmere, walk along to The Swan, turn right up the road, through a gate and then cross the footbridge. Just one problem today ......... the footbridge had gone ........ washed away in the winter storms I assume. So, a river stream crossing was necessary and fortunately we've had a dry spell so there wasn't much water. 

On the return route we (or was that I) decided to follow a permissive footpath sign not knowing where the path would lead, but thinking it may be shorter than the usual way. I don't think it was but it made a very pleasant alternative.
