Polperro
It was such a lovely day - blue skies and sunshine as far as the eye could see - I decided to take the Canadian relatives to Polperro. It's a Cornish fishing village which has managed to strike a fairly good balance between it's heritage and ongoing function as a fishing harbour, and being a tourist trap.We chatted and laughed all the way down and on arrival did the obligatory toilet stop - which cost 20p - can't remember the last time I had to pay to get into a toilet, at least it was to open the main door and so as an entry fee for 5 people it was a cheap pee!
My aunt remembered the place and the girls were thrilled with it - the quaint street and interesting shops and finally the harbour and the sea. We had lunch in the pub then made our way back to the car, My cousin and I at speed so we didn't go over our parking ticket, I though my aunt would get the dinky tram - but she walked! At 81 she has quite some stamina even with the fall and some quite impressive bruises on her arm, leg and thumb, thankfully the arnica seemed to have worked on her face.
We headed up the coast to visit Kingsand and Cawsand - one village merging into the other as you walked up the hill from the beach past the most interesting houses. I think a lot are holiday homes or lets, and each house had interesting sea themed displays in their windows. This blip is of a cafe however - I liked the reflections, and there may have been a chicken or two that initially caught my eye! It was gone 5 so the place was deserted apart from the locals doing rowing practise so it was just heavenly to walk around.
Finally home to pasties for tea -sadly they were not that good! But the rest of the day was and I had gelato, fruit, meringue and toffee sauce to make up for them!
If you want to see the picturesque Cornish villages then they are here, along with the obligatory family snaps!!
