All the Fun of the Fair
Yes it's that time year again when the Meadows Festival and the attendant fair come to our part of Edinburgh. It is an institution dating back to 1974 and opens this year on Wednesday with the stalls arriving on Saturday and Sunday.
It has been known on occasion for the weather to be good for the entire weekend, but generally there seems to be a pattern of rain for at least part of the two days. It never seems to fail.
However it wasn't raining today despite the general east coast gloom, which finally gave way to sunshine as I paid an unexpected visit to my friend of many talents this afternoon; unexpected because she is now domiciled for the foreseeable future in the Emerald Isle, but had to come back for 2 days for last minute tweaking to the Edinburgh flat which she and her partner are renting out.
In particular, the Clematis Montana hedge which has escaped from her garden and threatens to take over the pavement outside will be addressed tomorrow with a pair of secateurs by His Lordship and me before she leaves once more for the airport; a short back and sides is what is called for - on the hedge, not my friend.
