The Copper Country -2

This birch tree is alive and still standing, but surrounding
it are many birch trees taken down by the winds.  These
winds are the housekeepers of the forest.  They sweep
over and drop trees not able to withstand their pressure.
This particular area must have had a particularly "hard"
blow.

In this area, many years ago, my husband and I happened
upon a nesting woodcock.  It sat perfectly still and was
so well-camouflaged, we had much difficulty finding it
when we went back to find it.  At one time this area was
a farm clearing, but nature has again taken over.
