The Copper Country -4

To close this series, this derelict home was the homestead
of my husband's grandparents.  Many immigrants came
to this area of the US in the 1800's with the promise of
jobs in the mining industry.  This dwelling housed eight
children along with the parents.  If you look closely, you
will find evidence of a later kitchen addition that has been torn
down in recent years because of its perilous condition.

First the family rented the farm and later purchased
it.  The move to this farm was to be closer to the father's
work at the Quincy Mine.  Thus this industrious family
was a mining family plus farmers.  Early settlers put in
long hours of manual labor to keep "house and home"
together.
