Pigeon Guillemots
Stunning morning…(I’m not usually up and out that early but took R over to the marina to get the ferry at 7AM) Then H and I went for a row on flat calm water and watched the pigeon guillemots who have their nests in crevices on the very steep sided island to the north of us. Altho they all had mature plumage, I think some of these were smaller teenagers testing some of their flying abilities as this group stayed put on these rocks with us not too far away…taking turns flying off to land (and maybe fish) and returning, or just to fly a circle around and come back….with high pitched “coaching” from some of the larger birds. The little guy on the bottom never left the rock while we watched. (When I get my single rowing boat up here I will be able to sit with camera as long as I like!! :-) ) A couple more in the extras to show their position—fairly low tide already and going lower. And a close up of how they run on the water.. The rocks are as interesting to me as the birds, but I thot those little red feet set them off well.
