Learning all about it.

The swans were fine, in spite of building their nest so dangerously close to the boardwalk at the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust reserve. The stream of visitors and paparazzi hadn't bothered them too much - and they have a successful brood of six cygnets.

There was one egg left in the nest. Nobody is sure yet what the reason was, but it's certain that it wasn't a fertile egg and the parents gave up on it.

They have moved out of the limelight a little and spend their days, both parents in evidence, around one of the islands in the middle of the largest lake. I caught a moment here of the mum showing the little ones how to pull the reeds apart and make use of them. Four of the babies are paying good attention, one is clearly in dreamland - and the sixth was off out on his own. There's always one.

We also have some adorable ducklings - extra photo - with one that is a totally different colour, and is always in trouble. Watch this space.
