The front page of the free Metro paper this morning proclaimed "Good morning World. Welcome to our home and your Olympics" it was almost my blip.

Today I went looking for a big screen to watch the opening ceremony. There is one round the corner so that's all good.

I missed the peel of bells at 8:12 this morning but I did get down to Tower Bridge for a shot of two sets of Olympic rings. And I waited almost two hours for Gloriana to arrive with The Flame. I saw very little, choosing instead to get shots of Boris Johnson and the media circus. Happy with my photos I went further along and after people had got photos I asked for a gap. They duly obliged and I got this.

I also got shots of a group of Town Cryers (the collective noun is a shout)

From tomorrow I am looking after the world's best track and field athletes. It's a tough job but someone has to do it and I can't wait.
