Day 18: Buxy - Chatillon-sur-Challarone via Cluny

We left in the rain, which became stronger and with a strong cold wind we were soon freezing an soaked! Thank goodness we were on a smooth easy cycling track (voie verte) almost deserted, unsurprisingly. We allowed ourselves a proper break in Cluny to visit the Abbey. It was in great part destroyed after the revolutionary but there was a clever 3D reconstruction showing how enormous it was, and what is left is absolutely magnificent. I would have liked spending more time there, and learning about its architecture and history but we had to move on.
The rest of the cycling was partly on the Voie verte, but with more climb and a very long tunnel, then, the last 30 km were on relatively quiet roads through the famous "Grand Crus Blanc" vinyards - Pouilly-Fussé, St Véran..
Again, the hotel is really good and we managed to get an excellent meal, so all is well!
