The Luck of the Draw

I note with something bordering on paranoia that the weather forecast map for Shetland has a row of bright shiny suns gracing it today and tomorrow but they disappear as our overnight ferry docks in Lerwick on Thursday morning and stay hidden until after our ferry to Kirkwall leaves on Friday evening. The galling fact is that they reappear even brighter on Saturday when we are no longer there.

I feel as though a malevolent finger in the weather station of the world is pointing in our direction. We missed out on the heatwave in Barra last month and it seems as though we are about to miss out on any good weather for our brief 2 days in Shetland- not that we go to Shetland expecting amazing weather, but the last time I dragged His Lordship kicking and protesting up to Lerwick for two days, the rain was heavy and incessant from the minute we stepped off the boat at 7:30 on our first morning until we reboarded the next evening. This is not what is required to win over a reluctant Viking.

When we moved to the Dower House six years ago we planted this  wall climber to try and recreate a garden. The soil is so abysmal that it has not reached its full potential and now I don't even remember what it is called, but perhaps some gardening blipper can remind me. I thought the new leaves pretty enough to blip on a cheerless day of mist and rain.
