The Orlando Singers...

...Were celebrating 40 years as a choir in St Andrews Church, Chesterton. ( Obviously the singers had come and gone over the years) Over the Chancel Arch, in the mid 1400's, an older painting was replaced with a very fine picture of 'The Last Judgement' (seen here) known as a 'Doom Painting.' Seen in most parish churches, these  paintings were covered over with lime wash during the Reformation and very few survived. This is one of the best and although faded, on close inspection a great deal of the detail can be made out. Devils dragging people off to their punishment and another devil ticking off names on a list ! Also traces of lettering thought to be the ten Commandments.
