A pile of puppies
One of these gorgeous little pups will be coming home with us in a few weeks. It's all very exciting! After visiting my mum a few weeks back and Sam's reaction to the dog that she was dog sitting, I started thinking about getting a dog again. Having spent hours on the internet researching dog breeds that don't need hours of walking, are good companion dogs, are good with children, are not too big, preferably don't shed everywhere, don't have huge numbers of health issues and don't drool everywhere (I wanted a lot in one dog!) I finally settled on an F1 cross breed between a King Charles Spaniel and a miniature poodle.
I phoned a few breeders from adverts and finally found one who sounded as though she had genuinely checked the backgrounds of both parent dogs and knew what she was on about. (Some of the breeders had absolutely no idea what the common health issues that affect a king Charles spaniel were when I asked about them. Another told me about the 7-month-old pup from the sam bitch that I was welcome to see so I could see what the pups would look like when they got bigger - meaning that she had bred the bitch without giving her a break. Others just couldn't answer questions I asked.)
So today I went to Castleford to have a look at this litterof King Charles x poodles. The puppies are only 3.5 weeks old at the moment so we have a while to wait to bring one home, which will give us time to get everything ready for them. We will be getting a golden boy, though it could be one of two that are in the litter, depending on which one is left - we were 5th on the list by the time we got there. Sam and Will are very excited and have been coming up with names for their new pup. Some have been...interesting! My vote is for Harry as our family name is Potter so I couldn't use it for my boys when they were born, but I think I could just about get away with it for a dog!
