A dinner from when I was a boy
Managed to squeeze quite a lot in today despite it being the only full day back at home turning around from Wales, getting ready for Scotland and enjoying my birthday.
We walked into town as is customary on Saturday mornings with the additional bonus of enjoying a toasted teacake with our coffees.
The day started fine but clouded up during the morning so we walked home surrounded by thunderstorms but not being caught in any rain.
Storms intensified during the afternoon but I was able to dodge the worst down at the allotment trying to give the soil a once over and harvest beans, the first new potatoes, strawberries rhubarb and radishes.
Another storm sent me scuttling home, just beating the rain as I got back.
After that we had a very pleasant evening, a glass of bubbly with the aperitifs, my chosen birthday dinner of broad beans, excellent new potatoes, bacon and sausages (recreating a summer favourite from when I was a boy)
Instead of a birthday cake we had one final treat in a muffin as my birthday cake with our coffee. Not had muffin for months since going on this reduced sugar diet. My it was good. A couple of squares of dark chocolate ands smooth malt whisky rounded off a lovely day.
