Monkying around

Don't these little singing monks of Cluny make you smile! ( back blip Sunday)

We visited Cluny, in Southern Burgundy,  ( see map) on our way home.
It meant going up and over a very narrow twisty road,from where we stayed the night before, which wasn't so good for a car loaded with quite a large quantity of wine.
However the countryside looked beautiful in the clear morning sunshine.
Driving past fields of vines, through lovely little villages full of flowers, and then over wooded hillsides.

The Benedictine Abbey of Cluny was founded by William 1 of Aquitane in 910.  ( see extra photo collage)

After a walk round the town  ( no time for a look inside the Abbey) we carried on our way ,north through Southern Burgundy, on the D981.
Never drive too fast in Burgundy as you might miss a beautiful sight, such as the gorgeous  12 - 15th century chateau in the tiny village of Sercy ( see extra photo)
It was a very leisurely drive as far as Nuits St Georges, where we had another stop, before joining the motorway, all the way up to our final  night in the Champagne area.
