Gastronomic expectations
Whenever we eat out, we usually return to a place we know, or seek out somewhere we’ve heard of by reputation.
Yet the prospect of a new dining emporium within Southampton’s city centre holds intrigue and promise.
The multi-million pound Watermark development currently taking shape behind this hoarding adjacent to the city’s principal shopping mall, promises at least 20 restaurants as well as a multi-screen cinema and other leisure facilities when it opens later this year.
I guess each restaurant will have an individual signature, and because there will be a collection of them, we can expect high levels of service and cuisine. I was at the O2 arena in London the other day, where again there are any number of restaurants bidding for custom, and the experience seems to be pretty faultless. Except that the choice for my family for lunch really had little to do with the quality of food, but much more to do with the fact that it was the place that was showing a Euro 2016 football match on the big screen!
Nevertheless, I look forward to the opening of this development by developer Hammerson next to the city’s West Quay shopping complex. The names we are told will be opening their doors there are promising and give me a lot of anticipation for a fresh gastronomic experience.
Bib and tucker at the ready, and I can’t wait!
