Lake Alexandrina

We woke this morning to a perfect day, albeit a bit frosty. The sun was shining with not a cloud in the sky.

Late morning we took a trip to Lake Alexandrina, on the outskirts of Tekapo. It's a lovely little settlement, with a few baches, and a small camping area. Heading back out we drove up to the Mt John Observatory again - last time we were up there it was at night, so was nice to see the same area during the day. I can not get over how barren the countryside is, and going by the number of rabbits we have seen, what grass there is, is immediately eaten by the rabbits.

Having said about the baren landscape, it does look beautiful against the snow from the Southern Alps.

I took this photo from the top of Mt John. The lake shown in the photo is Lake Alexandrina.

After lunch we drove to Twizel and had a look around. The lakes around the MacKenzie basin are such a beautiful blue colour, due to the water coming straight from the Glaciers. It's certainly a beautiful part of New Zealand.
