twinned with trumpton

And we decided against the Cairngorms; high winds and poor visibility? No thanks. So we opted for more John Muir action; etape deux from North Berwick to - provisionally Potsandpans.
We met Barry at the station; train was running in spite of some industrial action and by 11 we were plodding the mean streets of North Berwick, heading westwards out of town. Quiet, mostly. Even the gold courses were sparsely populated; something to do with the final day of the Open, I guess.
Yellowcraigs was good; we need to go back there en familie - and soon.
And then a steady march into Gullane; cloudy but never rainy; a stiff breeze in the face.
Dog walkers and families appeared and disappeared; we stopped for lunch eventually just before Seton Sands; a quiet corner behind some gorse out of the wind on the edge of the beach.  Decent progress at around 3.5 mph.
And then the countryside / coast gave way to the line of villages - Cockenzie, Prestonpans and the executive decision to aim for ice cream at Luca's sealed the end point for the day. Just shy of 6 hours we sat with mint choc chip cones and rested the feet a while. Then Baz jumped a 44; we (foolhardily) jumped a 30 and off we went.
Home for gnocchi and a hot bath. And some nonsense TV.
Still trying to piece together the holiday lowcost collapse; seem to be winning but its a monumental effort.....

Looking to Edinburgh from - Prestonpans?
