garden party day 4; the tempest
My favourite sort of blip; a square/platz/place/plaza anywhere in Europe, a drink in front of me and where I don’t even have to get out of my chair to take the photograph.
So - last night’s gig.
It’s a hot, sultry night. Remember ‘sultry’. The landlord of the venue, a Musik Pub in Bunde, suggests we play outside in the beer garden. It’s all going fine, until about halfway through the second set when the sky suddenly goes dark, lightening flashes and we’re hit by a tempest. There’s no other word to describe it. Trees buckle, umbrellas turn inside out and our music is picked up and swirls around in front of us.
The response from the audience is amazing; a human chain is formed and instruments are passed in to the pub and the PA is unplugged, dismantled and carried by willing helpers into the van before the heavens open.
We settle into a corner of the pub and carry on with an impromptu unplugged set. The hat is passed round and we count the night a success.
