Buddha's Behind

My ma always said that before you go into the swish front part of a restaurant it's best to check out the conditions at the back of the building.

Not sure what she'd have thought about the House of Buddha in Old Georgetown which, unlike most restaurants, exposes its backside to every passer by. Interesting building, erected in 1888, it's thought to be the oldest shop in town and it looks as if it hasn't changed a lot in the passing 120 years.

Not sure what the owners keep behind the big doors to the left, perhaps a very large dog. Together with the steep stairs on each side leading to the precarious platform at the top, it could be a subtle advance warning to potentially dissatisfied customers. Not that there seem to be many, a quick glance at various web sites suggests that Buddha is the best Chinese restaurant in town.

Ma would have been intrigued. But would she have gone in?
