Roy's Watch
We come at last to the most valued watch in Norma's collection. No, it is NOT yesterday's watch. This belonged to Norma's uncle Roy. We have just got this one back from a measure of restoration which is why it has taken so long to appear. As near as we can figure, it is almost exactly 100 years old. Evidently the case itself is solid 9 carat gold and we know it is fully functional. The name "Angus & Coote" appears on the face although this was actually the firm of Sydney jewellers who had imported it from the USA, where it had been made by the Elgin National Watch Company.
Elgin made watches from 1864 until 1966 and for much of that time was reputed to have been the largest watch making business in the world. Anyway this timepiece has a lot more to show and a great deal more to hear about - so much so that I am going to do TWO more blips about it. Most particularly, there's a story to be told which really does deserve a posting all by itself.
