Pevensey Castle

Definitely Derelict; has not been lived in since the 1500s. I knew it was Norman - built by William of Conqueror fame but what I did not know is that he built it inside an old Roman Fort - Anderida built in AD 290 . and the outer walls are Roman . ( built not visible in this picture) . The castle was  used again for gun emplacements during the Spanish Armada .  During  WW2 the Home Guard,  American and Canadian troops were stationed inside and the outer walls strengthened but  still looking Roman so that if the Germans landed they would not know there were soldiers inside .
