Big Guns
The moth v butterfly semi-finals are really hotting up now and things are getting tense at the AOG's.
Just as the butterflies thought they had the Nectar Drinking competition in the bag the moths brought in one of their big drinkers - the hero and big gun of the team, old Six-Spot Burnet who set about demolishing the world record set last year which was then his personal best! The youngsters in the team watched with glee as he slurped drop after drop at the bar on the knapweed and were keen observers of his technique - they too wanted to be medal winners when they got older.
The Skips were small in comparison but what they lacked in stature they more than made up for in enthusiasm and effort. Just look at that concentration!! Still a long way off the final yet.
Over the other side of the Stadium we had the Grass Stalk Diving competition and this Brown Argus wasTeam Butterfly's hot contender for a medal this week. Shaking with nerves she was waiting for the starting gun when suddenly a gust of wind blew her off the stalk. Penalty points were issued as there was no excuse for not holding on tight - it was all part of the discipline! Team Moth were just loving it and I heard some very unsportsmanlike comments flitting over.
There were rumblings of discontent in the cafeteria today - something about lack of supplies and I'm going to hop over to the village to see what has been occurring. Will keep you updated with events.
Signing out your intrepid reporter from the AOG - remember folks - you heard it here first!
