Ferry Passenger
On the ferry returning from Orcas Island to Anacortes, I spotted this falconer walking around with his Harris's Hawk. I caught up with him in the men's room, where he'd gone to get some paper towel -- he explained that birds can't be house-trained!
He was very happy to talk to me about his hawk, and invited me to pet him -- which I did. One of the things I learned is that Harris's are the only hawks that hunt in packs. I found a National Geographic video showing an example of this. You can see it here.
As you can imagine, these two got a lot of attention for the whole of the ferry ride.
