Lunch at Sandwich Bay

What a superb day. We went down to Sandwich with Dennis and Irene to do a circular walk from the town, along the coast at Sandwich Bay and the two golf courses; the Royal St George's and the Royal Cinque Ports and back to Sandwich.

A sparking day, a little breezy at times which challenged the golfers who were out there in force in their colourful eccentric garb. One man was from Mississippi, USA who was enjoying his round, obviously wealthy enough both to play on the Royal St George and employ a caddy to carry his clubs. Another golfer had a remote control caddy that made its own way to the next shot. I don't think it was able to find a lost ball though. But we did see 8 or so people later on randomly walking around in the rough presumably looking for a ball. Must have been a bit of a competition.

The walk started and ended at the Bell Inn in Sandwich where we had coffee before starting off and a pot of tea after arriving back some 10 miles later.

The skies were wonderful as was the atmosphere and the sea, a joy to be out walking and, of course, what else could you have for lunch at Sandwich Bay but sandwiches.

From there we made our way up to Canterbury for a pizza at Strada to round off an excellent day. Walking back through the medieval streets of Canterbury on a walk late summer evening was very pleasant and I've included a street scene which could have been taken in Amsterdam or Paris or any number of European towns and cities.
