Rhingia rostrata

I know I have blipped this beautiful hoverfly before, but I simply couldn't resist blipping it again!
Rhingia roatrata is similar to the much commoner Rhingia campestris, but it has a much bluer (steely blue) thorax and no black line  on the sides of the abdomen. The legs are also much more orange in colour giving the impression of a much 'brighter' fly in general.
It is widespread in the south, but nowhere near as common as R. campestris, however there is a good colony at local Southwater woods, which is where I took this shot today.
I felt much better being able to go out insect hunting...the trouble with churches is they will always be there as expected when you go out looking for them, &I do enjoy a challenge!!!
