Keeping cool
Today was another glorious blue-sky day, very hot but fresher than it has been which made walking a pure delight, so I spent the morning doing just that in the Forest. The heather has purpled up the open spaces and under the trees the bracken is starting to turn gold (see extras).
But of course what I always want to see and blip are the ponies. None were out in the sun grazing, by midday only the cattle were stupidly doing that. In fact I thought I might miss them altogether until just as I was heading back to the station I saw a huge clump hugging the shade at the edge of Ashurst Wood.
There was only one late foal - this little girl - still with her mum, so of course that's what I went for. Many I think are sold off the Forest in June. It's a balancing act (as I understand it) to make sure there's enough grazing for the newly pregnant mares to thrive and get through the winter.
Hope you're day's been a happy one. And 'speak' soon xx
