Beach Explorations.
We decided to do a bit of exploration today, instead of the usual .... head to the beach, plonk down, relax, eat and read etc. So we went in a different direction. Up near the tip part of Cape breton is a town, Glace Bay, not a very vibrant place, actually a bit run down, but interesting from many different points of view. One of which is that there are quite a few disused coal mines up that way. Which offers a very interesting beach experience (see extra). Picked up some lunch and headed to the Glace Bay Beach. lovely stretch of beach (see extra) with few folks on it. Had lunch, and a lovely walk. Then we decided to explore at least 2 more beaches in the area. The second one was grand, we didn't spend much time there but have marked it as a possible place to return...perhaps even with the trailer we have been thinking about buying...and spending a couple of nights there....very quiet and not too far from home. The third one was way too busy, but there were purple rocks...and lots of other very lovely rocks...i brought home a little pile of purple rocks, i mean how could i resist!
Our plan was to then go into Sydney to do a bit of shopping...Terry had a very particular place in mind. Well, we forgot that it was Sunday...and everything closed at 5pm....we got there at 5.10 pm...thinking things might be open till 6! Big disappointment.
But all in all, even altho we felt like we spent more time driving than beaching....it was an enjoyable and interesting day.
