Day 255 of 366 - The Priory Undercoft!
Today's image was taken this afternoon in the Cathedral Quarter in the City Centre of Coventry. The view is of the remains of the Priory Undercoft which was part of the complex for The first of Coventry's Three Cathedral's. The first Cathedral dedicated to St Mary, was originally a Benedictine monastery formed by Lady Godiva in the year 1043. Over the years the monastery grew until it was given Cathedral status in the 12th Century. The Cathedral complex grew to an impressive size in the few hundred years of it's existence. The estimates are that it was at least the same size as both the current New Cathedral and the Ruins of the second Cathedral of St Michael combined. The priory Cathedral of St Mary's was eventually dissolved and taken down during the reign of King Henry VIII. Over the years much was forgotten about the Cathedral as there was numerous buildings put up over the site. The church of St Michael had been given Cathedral status (the second of the Cathedrals of Coventry) at the beginning of the 20th Century, which only lasted a few years until it was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. The New Cathedral of St Michael was built next to the ruins of the second ruined Cathedral. During excavation work carried out in 2002 partly by Channel 4 TV's Time Team, a small part of Coventry's original Cathedral was unearthed. This mainly included these ruins of the Priory Undercroft. The Undercroft currently not normally open to visitors, was especially opened this weekend as part of the Heritage open weekend in Coventry.
The photo was taken using the app Camera Awesome on my iPhone 6.
First I used the app Snapseed to edit the picture. I Cropped the image and applied the Tonal Contrast preset. I then boosted the Saturation, Contrast and Ambiance. Next I used the app AltPhoto to apply the Kodachrome 35mm Vintage Colour preset without the boarder. Finally I used PhotoToaster to add the Clarify preset, the Stark FX and a Medium Dark Vignette. I then added the Scratched texture and the Leather frame.
