We have used wood burning stoves for many years and we have two of them. I have completed the annual job of sweeping the chimneys (always a considerable sweat) and felt it was time that we had a properly designed chimney cowl.
It may sound rather elementary but the cowl should let the smoke out and prevent the rain from getting in.
It is surprising how many fail to do this. So here you see Steve the doyen of all things wood burning, about to remove the old cowl in readiness for the new one.
What the photograph does not show however is the breaking of the chimney pot a few moments later.
Anyway it has all been put back together now and we await the first cool evening in order to light the fire...
