A Hundred Pipers an' a'
A very warm and sunny day, terrific!
We ventured into Glasgow, in order to see Piping Live in George Square. This is run in conjunction with the World Pipe Band Championships which take place in Glasgow Green tomorrow. We saw a lot of bands, from all over the world, and the piping is obviusly of world class standard. The Square with the City Chambers in the background makes a great venue, and it was packed with enthusiastic people.
I think we enjoyed most of all the Kintyre School Pipe Band. They played for almost an hour in the afternoon, and were terrifically well disciplined, with some really good piping. I don't know what grade they are, but I wish them luck in their grade tomorrow as they gave us an hour of great enjoyment. It seems that seven primary schools feed into the secondary school in Campbelltown, and part of the schools' curriculum includes piping, so that they catch them young, and it surely shows. Most of the band were around the 15/16 years mark, and beautifully turned out, a credit to their parents and also to their Pipe Major.
But I thought I should give precedence to visitors from overseas, so my photograph is of the morning's session, where we had six pipe bands from other lands playing. This included Canada (2), New Zealand, Denmark, Brittany, Australia, all represented. At the end of the session they had a march past in George Square of the massed pipes and drums, it was wonderful, and my photograph is of them turning in the Square.
And all for free........
This is nice in large!
