Mungo Park

Mungo Park  was an African explorer (1771-1806), famous for his attempts to trace the Niger's outflow.   He did remarkable work for the Africa Association and the Linnaean Society.    He died on an expedition.

He worked as a surgeon in Peebles.for a time.    A Danish repertory company is touring the UK at the moment with a play about his life.  Tonight they were in Peebles.

Mungo was an ancestor of my grandmother's cousin, so I thought I had better have a look.    The production was a little weird, but enjoyable and informative.
