The 5 &10 Cent Store
Dear Diary,
A visit to the North Conway 5 &10 Cent Store is always a treat. It is such a nostalgic place. Growing up we had a Woolworth's 5 & 10 on Main Street and I loved shopping there as a little girl. It is where I got my first "store bought" jump rope and I found some here to...no red handles but pretty much the same. There were also bags of marbles and boxes of pick up sticks, more childhood favorites.
This store opened in 1939, I've added the original newspaper ad. Just check out the prices! Of course, the Depression was still happening so money was tight for everyone. You nickles and dimes went a long way in this store.
Dotty's memorial service was truly amazing. The church was packed to overflowing. The tributes were moving and emotional and I know she would have been pleased. So, now it is up to us to go on with our lives as best we can and "like it or lump it" as she often said. Find a way to deal with what comes your way and smile. Your life will be so much happier if you do.
