Twins

It has been a busy afternoon at the Maternity paddock, with two sets of twins being born within an hour of each other. Both sets of twins were a heifer and a bull, and when we looked at our records, the sire (father) was the same. And in another strange co-incidence, both cows were standing within 10 metres of each other - and they were in a 3 hectare paddock.

This picture, taken on my iPhone (as I didn't have time to grab my good Camera), shows the second cow licking clean one of her calves not long after giving birth.
When we arrived in the paddock, this cow was having trouble delivering her first calf, so Farmerboy had to help her with the delivery. A couple of minutes later, he looked at her again, and couldn't believe his eyes when he saw another calf starting to make an appearance. The poor cow was exhausted, so Farmerboy also had to assist with the delivery.

We have had another nice sunny day, although it is meant to be wet tomorrow. Yuk - not looking forward to being outside in that!
