The suckers

The one thing young calves are good at is sucking your fingers. I don't know why - this calf had just been fed, so it's not hungry. Whatever the reason, they're rather cute. Number 8 is a little heifer calf that we are keeping - in two years time she herself will be giving birth to a wee calf, and will be coming into the milking herd. And so the life cycle continues.
