A (Very) Little Claim to Fame
I popped over to see Mum this afternoon, partly to discuss her health with professionals, and it also coincided with a relatives meeting at the nursing home. Unfortunately all meetings were cancelled at short notice after the nursing lead at the home had an unfortunate fall resulting in a suspected broken arm.
I spent some time with Mum and then popped to the local supermarket, before heading home. I hadn't got a Blip organised and then remembered our family's (more correctly my Dad's) claim to fame in Lichfield. The story goes that Lichfield Council gave planning permission for a brand new estate to the south of the city, using land owned by the diocese. Unfortunately for Lichfield Cricket Club the land included their clubhouse and ground (though they were helped to relocate to new land elsewhere).
After the estate started to be laid out and houses built, the cricket club were approached asking if they wanted to nominate names for the new roads. Dad had umpired 1st team matches for many years but I suspect he was nominated for all of the fund raising for the club in the run up to the relocation. They put forward his and other names and so we have ended up with a small estate road in the city with his name.
I find it hard to believe it is more than 16 years since he died.
