Mini-Mull

After our long round trip we took it easy as the rain misted down and the wind blew. We did go down to the bay below the cottage and looked at the storm-tossed waves and gannets. We saw a most amazing bird flying low over the water - bluey black with long graceful wings- we wondered later if we had seen a Great Shearwater. Difficult to see what else it might have been. It was thrilling.

A lone yachtsperson was out in the foul weather and made quick progress towards Coll. It was a bold voyage.

Later I drove down to Calgary Bay to have a look for sea fishing possibilities. I took a walk out on the north side of the bay to the old pier. There is an amazing 'wall' formed by a basalt dyke and later I saw these mini basalt columns.

Rain threatened but didn't fall and the gale of earlier was dropping. It was nice to get back to the log burner and a warm and cosy house.
