Purple Sunbird(Cinnyris Asiatics)
A male Purple Sunbird caught in transition. This Sunbird is in the middle of a dramatic plumage change, soon he will be metallic purple and dark turquoise. This is a tiny bird at less than 10cm long. They feed on nectar, but also take fruits and insects. There were lots fluttering around in the Date palms of the Wadi this morning and are very noisy! Soon the males will be displaying above a female, fanning their tails and wings and exposing his pectoral tufts!
