The Fire Garden

Cathie and I went through to Harrogate tonight to check out the fire instalation. I found an add for it a couple weeks back in The Big Issue andit look interesting.
It was a beautiful summer feeling night. We arrived before anything had been lit and walked around the park. Then watched the lighting process which was part of the 'show'.
In short it was fantastic. Weird! But fantastic. We really enjoyed the whole night and would have stayed longer if it hadn't been a school night. Saying that, we didn't leave until 11pm!
Part way through we got an icecream and sat down to take in the floating vests over the 'lake'. They reminded me of 'lost souls' somehow!
All the path ways were lined with big terracotta pots filled with wax and a rag as a wick. They were just like little fire bombs! Then here and there, there were sculptures that featured fire some where or other. Our favourite was the great big balls of fire hanging under a big low hanging tree. It was so much warmer under the tree!
There was a band playing 'wierd' music that was a bit too much and too loud when you were close to it but it did add atmosphere when you were further away!
It was great and I would loveto see it again. :)

It was Compagnie Carabosse's 'The Fire Garden' for the Harrogate International Festival's 50th Anniversary.
