Victorian Painting
Every year in October we go to a Reunion of retired University Registrars. Each year we have lunch in a different university and then we stay for the weekend in a nearby hotel.
Today we were at Royal Holloway a College of the University of London. It is based in Egham in Surrey.
We were greatly favoured in being allowed to hold our lunch in the College's world famous Picture Gallery which has a major collection of nineteenth century paintings. The curator then gave us a talk about some of the most famous pictures.
Here is a taste of just one of the paintings. There were no signs saying photography was forbidden and of course I would never use flash.
This painting is entitled " Sympathy" and is by Briton Riviere who lived from 1840 to 1920.
