Paul has his work cut out
Paul and his wife, Ann (I think) started on their plot this year and have made a lovely garden from an overgrown site. Now they have taken on another half plot which is in a far worse state but in an excellent position in full sun.
They've already constructed a substantial compost bin, a place you could almost live in. As you can see he's cleared much vegetation and rubbish and is in the process of making the top bit into a terrace. Like me he's scrounged all the bits of timber and other resources from stuff that people have thrown away, pallets, floorboards and all sorts of bits of wood.
My morning at the allotment was spent clearing out an old strawberry bed and creating a new strawberry bed. I was hoping to reuse some trailers but found very few. It'll have to be new plants for next year.
Disturbed to find all the pears, bar one, missing from the tree. On Tuesday I thought there were fewer than before. Now there is only one and scattered around the plot are loads of part eaten pears. Susan thinks it may be squirrels.
The afternoon was spent doing a head teachers appraisal which was good mental gymnastics. I cycled there and back to avoid the town centre roadworks. Relaxation afterwards came in the form of a walk across the golf course in the gathering dusk.
