Kirkstone Pass
Today's the day ............................. to go for a drive
We wanted to test out our new satnav in the car - so we went for a drive this afternoon to see how it would cope with the ups and downs of the Lake District.
It took us without difficulty to the National Trust's 17th century farmhouse, Townend, in the Troutbeck Valley - with its incredible bank barn as shown below. Then up over the Kirkstone Pass until we could see the road snaking back down past Brothers Water and on eventually to reach Ullswater.
We turned round at this point and retraced our steps - or at least that's what the satnav wanted us to do. We tested it by forking right instead of left at the Kirkstone Inn, down The Struggle into Ambleside. I'm pleased to tell you that it coped very well - and just 'recalculated' the diversion without any signs of stress or recrimination.
I think we'll all get on fine ............................
