A gracious lady

Quite a day – first to the Paralympic swimming – just unbelievable what these heroes can do, some with virtually no limbs at all. Totally inspiring. Then on to the wheelchair rugby. Such an exciting match between Team GB and Australia, but GB never quite managed to catch up, and although they got to within one point of the Aussies near the end, the Aussies clinched it at  53 x 51. We then saw the US defeat France, but couldn’t get quite as involved, it’s not the same as watching your ‘ home’  team.

We then made our way over to the British House, where we bumped into a friend who’s doing simultaneous interpreting there, talked to a lovely lady who’s a former Paralympic hockey player, and then I briefly met GB’s Undersecretary of State for Sport, Heritage and Tourism, Tracey Crouch. I should actually say that I had the cheek to ask her for her autograph (which she gave very graciously). I cringe to think of it, absolutely not a cool thing to do, particularly as she was with the British Ambassador to Brazil, whom I failed to recognise, and was on her way to give a talk (on empowerment of women, I believe). Still, she couldn’t have been nicer and actually said she was flattered to be asked. Doesn’t stop me grunting with embarrassment every time I remember it.
