The Age of Steam

last week we saw an offer on Groupon for tickets to visit Quainton Railway Centre. I have always lived within 10 miles of it but never visited. So we succumbed to the offer & went today. Lots of kids around because of half term but not too many. We had a good walk around & enjoyed lunch here too. We even went on the train for a short ride along with hundreds of others. We were in a corridor carriage & shared a compartment with a young Max & his Grandma & Grandad who had brought him out for the day. I took some pictures of them which I have just emailed to them - hopefully they will be pleased.

Lots of rolling stock & quite a number of Locos but it takes vast amounts of money to get the trains back on the rails. I was talking to one of the volunteers about a loco in the visitor centre. He told me that they are about to start work on the Castle Class Red Dragon & it will cost about a million pounds.

We spent a good 3.5 hours seeing the miniature railway as well as the model railway too. It was a good little recce for taking someone in the future and we enjoyed it .....especially as it was half price !
